DID YOU KNOW THAT...
...every human being needs between 20 and 50 litres of fresh water per day for drinking, washing and cooking?

...this amount of fresh water is not available to one in six people around the world?

...contaminated drinking water and poor sanitation are responsible for 88% of all fatal intestinal diseases in the world?

... according to rough estimates it will take an investment of USD 600 billion over the next 10 years to prevent further degradation in basic fresh water supplies in developing countries and transitional countries?

Dossier: Access to water in South-Eastern Europe

Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right. Yet many people, particularly in rural regions of Eastern Europe, still have no access to clean water or adequate sanitation. Governments face huge technical, administrative and economic challenges. Where infrastructure exists, it is increasingly falling into disrepair, the quality of the water is deteriorating, and water itself is becoming an ever-scarcer resource.
