Financing Livelihood: access to money and advice

For 20 years the SDC has been developing financial services -- savings accounts, money transfers, insurance, credit, etc. -- for poor households and small businesses in Africa, Latin America and
Asia. One remarkable success story is the long-standing collaboration with the Indian microfinance institution Basix. Methodical innovation has paved the way for its gradual expansion. Basix
currently serves over 1.5 million customers, who pay for the services received.
| An innovative approach In 2002 with the support of the SDC, Basix took an important decision and renounced forced growth driven mainly by credit. The aim of the new “Livelihood Finance” approach is to secure financing for the livelihood of poor clients, not just by providing financial services but also training and advice to significantly improve their living conditions. |
