65th International Film Festival Locarno
For the past 10 years theLocarno International Film Festival has run the Open Doors section to support independent filmmakers from the countries of the South and East. This project is supported by the SDC.This year the focus is on Francophone Africa to the south of the Sahara
The SDC has supported Open Doors since the first edition in 2003. Open Doors helps to implement and to disseminate feature film productions from the countries of the South and the East in which the possibilities of realisation and financing are very restricted.
Focal region Sub-Saharan Africa
Every year there is a focus on a certain region. This year it is sub-Saharan Africa. 12 filmmakers were chosen on the basis of their current film
projects. 213 applications were received from 17 countries. The aim is to optimise marketing and then to present the project in bilateral meetings with possible partners. There were also be
discussions about the difficulties and possibilities of producing films in the South. During the entire festival period a wide range of films from Francophone Africa will be screened, the aim being
to give a deeper insight into filmmaking in the region and to raise awareness ofthe wider context.
The programme of theLocarno Film Festival will be available on the website at the end of July.
